Jeff Smith

Meet Jeff Smith! Jeff has a compassionate heart and loves to meet new people. Jeff makes Greer a better place to live, work and play. My name is Jeff Smith, I am 48 years old. I have been employed with the Greer Police Department for nearly 27 years and have worked closely within our community and its members in hopes of making it better each day. During these years, I have seen tremendous change in our area and have met a lot of wonderful people.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have been married for 23 years and have a 21 year-old-daughter who is currently working on her Graduate Degree in Adolescent Psychology

Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently the Community Outreach Sergeant, overseeing all the department’s outreach events. I love the City of Greer and its community members. We have such a caring and supportive community. I truly enjoy getting out, usually on foot, and meeting new people. Over the past 26 plus years, I have come to know some great people and have been some awesome relationships.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Wow! There are so many to choose from. Stomping Grounds, Mutts, Moe’s, Wild Ace, Pour Sports, Chick Fil A, and Great Bay Oyster House to name a few.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I began my career with the City of Greer Police Department January 20, 1994. I have lived in this area my entire life.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
None other than Keith Kelly. Not only is he my pastor but also a great family friend. He has been our Chaplain at the police department for nearly 30 years and regardless of what is going on, he never judges or feels any different towards others.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Paris France. I have only seen pictures of this place and would really love to travel there one day.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Star Wars

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Follow the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To Skydive

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
U2 or Def Leppard

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I really cannot narrow it to one business. I really love how the changes have taken shape in the Greer Station (Downtown) area. When I first started here, I can only remember about four businesses on Trade St. Dixie Cafe, Bullocks Barber Shop, Smith & James, and Price’s Feed and Seed. Everything else was essentially empty store fronts. However, as a child I remember coming to downtown Greer with my grandparents to Bailes and Collins and Willie Roe’s Shoe Repair shop. Willie was a great person to speak with. He used to have some pretty cool stories.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would love to have lunch with a gentleman I met many years ago named Gary Johnson. The reason I would love to take him to lunch is because he once fed me when I was down on my luck. I would like to take him to see Jason at the Strip Club 104.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Although, I do love old buildings, I really have enjoyed witnessing the many transformations Greer has gone through.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I really am a great drummer.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Bahamas

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
December, Christmas. Sundays are the best.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My family. Without question.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, Love, and Peace
