Hannah Drake

Meet Hannah Drake!  Hannah is a senior at Riverside High School in Greer.   I enjoyed speaking with Hannah and learning about her plans for after graduation. She is passionate about becoming a middle school history teacher and plans to attend Coastal Carolina in the fall of this year.  You can tell that she loves her family, especially her Mama.  She is missing her friends during this final semester of high school and looks forward to visiting her grandmother when this COVID crisis is over.   We are proud of Hannah #hereingreer!  Please join me in congratulating her and helping her to celebrate her graduation from high school!

Q: Where do you go to school?

A: Riverside High School.

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path? I plan to attend Coastal Carolina in the fall to persue a teaching career. I want to be middle school history teacher. Many people do not show a lot of love to middle schoolers due to them being quite difficult but I think they deserve the same amount of love as any other student. I want to make them have a great middle school experience because I know how difficult it can be.

Please tell us a little bit about your family. I live with my parents and my older brother. We are your typical southern family. We love each other, have Sunday dinners, LOVE sweet tea, and just being together.

Q: What are couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: I LOVE sushi so much! My favorite sushi restaurant in Greenville is Sushi Masa on the corner of highway 14 and Pelham Road. They have the BEST sushi I have ever had!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: The most interesting person I’ve met that lives in the area is definitely my Mima. Mima is a little crazy, but I absolutely love her! She is so creative and has such a bubbly, imaginative personality! If you have ever met Ms. Judy Drake, you would understand! She is awesome! She loves to paint and do so many crafts. She recently had a stroke but she is still making amazing gifts!!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: I have always wanted to go to Greece ever since I was little. All the pictures I have seen are stunning. I love how beautiful the scenery is and the beaches are gorgeous. I also really like Greek and Mediterranean food!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: My all time favorite movie is 50 First Dates. Don’t ask why but I’ve been watching that movie ever since I was little. It gives me some hope of finding love just like Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s characters. Whenever it’s on TV, I can’t resist watching it!

Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?

A: My favorite teacher always told us “never have two jobs at once”. Her name is Ms. Samantha Nance. I absolutely adored her. She was so thoughtful and caring. She loves every single one of her students and athletes. For someone who says never have two jobs, she does super well with having two jobs! She is a teacher and my school’s athletic trainer. I respect the hustle, Ms. Nance!

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?

A: Hands down Thomas Rhett. I love him! I’ve been to three of his concerts and they just keep getting better and better! He has songs for just about any mood. His songs are just so good!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: I would chose to take Zendaya to the best BBQ restaurant in Greenville, she was born in California and I want her to experience how good South Carolina BBQ is.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: Fall for Greenville! It’s my favorite event in Greenville. It’s just a fun thing to do with friends and experience great new and old businesses (mostly food) Greenville has to offer.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: Hopefully, I am teaching history at a middle school near the coast, possibly have a boyfriend or be engaged. Definitely not kids, I want to live my life before I settle down to have a family but I do want kids in the future!

Q: What show are you binge-watching right now?

A: All American on Netflix. Soooo good! It has such a good plot and the people aren’t too bad to look at either, ha-ha!

Q: Favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: October is my favorite month because it has the best weather. My favorite holiday is Christmas because the feeling is the best! I love being surrounded by family and friends. The best single day on the calendar is April 19 for the reason that it’s my grandma’s birthday.  She is the sweetest lady you will ever meet and is such an influential person in my life.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My dad. He hasn’t had the most picture perfect life but he always has a positive attitude and wants to see me and my brother succeed and do our best. He always pushes me to be the best I can be.

Q: If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do differently?

A: I would have been more involved in clubs and sports. I feel like I would have had better experiences and maybe could have developed new skills and built new friendships.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?

A: All of my teachers and friends. I never got the chance to say goodbye to any of them and that just makes it so much harder.

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?

A: Go visit my Mima. I haven’t been able to see her because she lives in a nursing home and they are not letting in any visitors. I just miss seeing her and just being around her.
