Alison Rauch

Meet Alison Rauch!  You may know her as the host of the virtual touch a truck.   Alison brings a fun loving sprit to Greer!  She is always on the move serving or looking for opportunities to serve our community.  I have been on many adventures with Alison and mostly what I love about her is her love for life.  Alison brings professionalism and kindness into all that she takes on.  Alison, we are happy you choose being with us #hereingreer!  (Introduction by Eugenia Bentley)

Please tell us a little bit about your family. I was born and raised in Columbia, SC and much of my immediate family still lives in the Midlands. I have an older brother and a sister-in-law who are both educators. My parents are retired and enjoy gardening, riding bikes and doing yard work.

Please tell us about your current business/career. What do you love most about what you do? I’m the Public Information Coordinator for Greer CPW.  I love my role because I get to meet and interact with our customers on a daily basis, provide them with energy saving tips, educational tidbits and connect them to the right people to help with their utility questions.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in Greer?

A: Great Bay Oyster House, Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Andy’s Frozen Custard, Stomping Grounds, Barista Alley and The Mason Jar.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

A: I’ve lived in Greer since May 2016.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: I would travel to the mountains and stay within driving distance of a good hiking trail. I find I’m most relaxed when I’m in the woods near a waterfall.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: I honestly do not watch much TV but am a little nostalgic to Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Beauty and the Beast or a good comedy. Don’t laugh at me – I’m stuck in the 90’s!

Q: What advice would you give to people?

A: Life is short. Do what makes you happy. Often times we spend too much time working or bogged down in things that don’t really matter. Get out and do the things that make you smile.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: Hike at Zion National Park.

Q: What is go-to band or favorite music when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: Lady Antebellum.

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Greer?

A: Rivera’s – I did not eat there a lot but always enjoyed the salmon when I did. I hate they closed after 10 years in Downtown.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you take them for lunch?

A: I would have lunch with CBS Reporter Steve Hartman. His stories share the positive in communities and make me smile, cry or laugh – sometimes all three! I’d take him to The Mason Jar and then Abbott’s Frozen Custard for dessert.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Greer?

A: I love the Downtown area and all the improvements that are being made. I love how walkable the City is and enjoy strolling through Greer City Park. Make sure to check out the awesome music they play near the fountain 🙂

Q: (Even for friends and family) What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I’ve been skydiving – twice! I went for my 21st birthday and then again in 2007 before graduating college. Prior to the first jump, I had never been in an airplane before.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: Most recently, Green River Game Lands in Saluda, North Carolina however I think all South Carolina State Parks are beautiful and visit them often.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It’s just a really wonderful time to hang out with my family, celebrate the reasons we’re thankful and enjoy a home cooked meal.

Q:Who inspires you to be better?

A: My parents. They are always supportive of my crazy ideas but also know when to bring me back to reality!

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: Comfortable, Safe and Inviting.
