Ariel Weaver

Meet Ariel Weaver!  Ariel is a High School Senior at Greer Middle College.  I enjoyed talking with her via a Zoom call to learn about her and her future plans.  One of her passions is acting and she has been involved in local theater for many years.  She was selected to participate in the Junior Leadership Greer program which is sponsored by the Greer Chamber.  She has a close relationship with her family and friends and loves Greer for its “little city feel”.  She is looking forward to going out to eat with her friends when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.  We are proud of Ariel #hereingreer!  Please join me in congratulating her and helping her to celebrate her graduation from high school!

Q: Where do you go to school?

A: Greer Middle College.

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path? I will be attending Clemson University in the Fall of 2020. I am enrolled as a Communication Arts major. I am not sure which direction I will be going however, I have thought about teaching. I enjoy working with people and helping them.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.  There are six people in my family…there are my parents and I have a brother who is a junior at Clemson, my sister will be a freshman at Greer Middle College and my youngest brother is home schooled by my mother who is a teacher. My family is very close. We have all been home schooled up until going to high school.  When asked about the transition from home schooling to high school, Ariel stated that her parents prepared her well for public school and the transition was smooth.

Q: What are couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: Mr. Salsa because I love Mexican food and it is near my high school and there are a lot of memories there with my friends. I also like Wild Ace…great pizza…sooo good!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: I once met a man at Barista Alley who struck me as an artist. He was maybe in his 60’s and he struck up a conversation with me and my friends. I would describe him as “quirky”.  That’s what I love about our community. There are a lot of interesting people and you can strike up conversations with people you meet.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: Slovakia – We have family heritage there with my dad’s family. It looks like a beautiful place with fabulous terrain and I love the outdoors. The other place I would like to go is Switzerland for it’s landscapes and hiking.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: “The Lion King”- I love that movie! It never gets old. I don’t watch a lot of TV however, I do love shows where I have to figure things out like NCIS and Sherlock.

Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?

A: My sophomore year, I had a teacher for my English class named Mr. Cook and he talked about critical thinking. He always said, don’t let other people think for you, think for your self and learn how to think for yourself.

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?

A: Need to Breath…I love the song Wash by the Water.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: John Krasinski..he is hilarious, talented and funny! He has accomplished a lot during his career. He went from being a waiter to directing movies. He has had a lot of success. I would take him to Wild Ace for pizza.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: I like the small atmosphere of downtown Greer. It feels like a little city. My favorite spot is Greer City Park. I enjoy hanging out with my friends there. There is an antique shop downtown that has a lot of memories tied to it. The woman who owns it is interesting to talk with and to learn about her travels all around collecting items for her shop.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: I hope to be married and would love to have kids eventually (not necessarily in 5 years :)). I don’t have a clear vision but I hope to be going down a career path that I am passionate about. I want to serve people and follow whatever path God has for me.

Q: What show are you binge-watching right now?

A: My little sister and I just finished Outerbanks on Netflix.

Q: Favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: April – I love the Spring when it’s not too hot and not too cold and summer is on the horizon. Easter is my favorite holiday. Christmas Eve is my best single day – it is an exciting day with a lot of anticipation. We stay up late, watch Christmas movies as a family and wrap presents.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My family- my parents and my siblings. They know me best and know my strengths and weaknesses. They call me out and see things in me that I don’t see in myself- good and bad. They inspire me to be better!

Q: If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do differently?

A: I would pursue people earlier on. I would have spend more time with friends outside of school. I have created a lot of favorite memories and would have initiated doing things with my friends earlier in my high school career.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?

A: I miss being a student. I love my teachers, school and classmates. I miss talking to people at school that I don’t see outside of school. I miss the normality of physically going to class.

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?

A: Go to a restaurant. I miss going to Cook Out with my friends late at night. When I get to go I will get the Cook Out tray- quesadilla wrap, chicken wrap, fries and water.
